The world of "The Power" is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, teenage girls in the world develop the power to electrocute people at will. It's hereditary, it's inbuilt, and it can't be taken away from them. Coming alive to the thrill of pure power, the ability to hurt or even kill by releasing electrical jolts from their fingertips, they rapidly learn they can awaken the Power in older women as well. Soon enough, nearly every woman in the world can do it, which turns the world order as we know it into upheaval.

Production Notes
Adapted by Naomi Alderman based on her feminist sci-fi book, the 9-episode series was heavily impacted by the pandemic. Leslie Mann was cast as lead Margot Cleary-Lopez in October 2019. In February 2020, when the series was starting production, Rainn Wilson was cast as male lead Daniel Dandon. All Hollywood production was shut down by mid-March because of the pandemic. Filming was delayed for months, and Wilson became unavailable. He ultimately left the project, and Tim Robbins was cast as Dandon in January 2021 when the role switched from a series regular to a recurring guest star. A year and a half later, the series went back into production, but with both Mann and Robbins becoming unavailable. Toni Collete and Josh Charles filled their spots in the Summer of 2022 and re-shot their scenes over a period of five weeks.
The series premiered on Prime Video on March 31, 2023 to positive reviews, although some critics mentioned the difficulty in bringing Alderman’s complex novel to life. It received press tours in both the United Kingdom and the United States, but since Prime Video didn’t release rating numbers for their productions, it is unclear how well it was received by audiences.
