Based on Iraq War vet Kevin Powers' 2012 novel. Two young soldiers are forced to endure the brutality and horror that war creates firsthand. Bartle (Alden Ehrenreich), who made a promise to protect his teenage friend Murph (Tye Sheridan) before departing for Iraq, looks to survive the fighting and grueling day-to-day conditions while also dealing with the stern, unforgiving Sergeant Sterling (Jack Huston), who is haunted by his own demons. At home, their mothers - Amy (Toni Collette) and Maureen (Jennifer Aniston) wait eagerly for their sons' safe returns.
