According to TV Line, Tate Donovan has joined CBS’ Jerry Bruckheimer-produced drama pilot Hostages. Based on the Israeli format, the prospective series revolves around a family caught in the middle of a grand political conspiracy. Donovan joins Hostages as Brian, the husband of Toni Collette‘s matriarch Ellen. Described as a former Ivy League “golden boy,” Brian is now attempting to cover up the fact that his real estate career is floundering, forcing him to rely on his wife to keep the family afloat. Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story) is also set to co-star.

According to Entertainment Weekly, American Horror Story star Dylan McDermott has joined CBS’ high-profile political thriller pilot Hostages. McDermott has been cast alongside the show’s previously announced star, Toni Collette. Hostages is about family caught in the middle of a grand political conspiracy that will change their lives forever. McDermott will play Duncan, a righteous FBI agent who is at the center of a conspiracy involving the President “but whose role will come as a surprise.” McDermott starred in the first season of FX’s horror series and appeared in the second. Nothing has been announced regarding his participation in the third season. If the Hostages pilot is picked up to series, the casting would normally make a return to AHS less likely since the actor would typically have to get permission from CBS to appear on the other show — especially if Hostages is slated for fall. But we’ll update this post if we get more clarity on this. Hostages is written and directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Homeland) and executive produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Omri Givon, Rotem Shamir and Chayim Sharir.

Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning and Isaac Hempstead-Wright will all lend their voices to “The Boxtrolls,” a new 3D stop-motion animated feature that Focus Features and LAIKA have parntered on, the two companies announced on Thursday. LAIKA has begun production on the film. It has previously made “Coraline” and “ParaNorman,” which is nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar this year. Based on Alan Snow’s fantasy adventure novel, “The Boxtrolls” is a comedic fable set in Cheesebridge, a Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth and odiferous cheese. According to legend the titular characters are sewer-dwelling monsters who surface at night to steal both children and cheese. In reality, they are endearing goofballs who wear cardboard boxes like turtles wear shells. The cavern-dwellers raise Eggs, an oprhaned human voiced by Hempstead-Wright. Archibald, a pest exterminator voiced by Kinglsey, wants to eradicate the boxtrolls to gain entre into high society. A rich girl, voiced by Fanning, tries to bring the gap between the two worlds. One of Toni’s more recent films, the 2012 British drama/comedy “Foster” will be released in the USA on DVD and VOD. The title has been changed for the US market to “Angel in the House” (how very un-spoilerish!) and will be released on, March 26, 2013. The film has been recently reviewed on the site, I wouldn’t rank it among Toni’s best, but if you enjoy family comedy (or London in its brightest colors), check it out.
