Now that’s some fun casting news. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Toni Collette is joining the ever-growing cast of xXx3: The Return of Xander Cage, the Vin Diesel-starring reboot of the 2002 action pic. The project is gearing up for a production start in February and already has a call sheet that includes Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Vampire Diaries’ Nina Dobrev, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone and Orange Is the New Black breakout Ruby Rose as well as Samuel L. Jackson. D.J. Caruso is directing the pic, which has a script by F. Scott Frazier, and plans on shooting in Toronto and the Dominican Republic. Plot details are being kept under wraps but insiders say it involves two teams of badasses that go head-to-head. Collette will play a bureaucrat in the intelligence service. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum are producing xXx3 along with Diesel and Samantha Vincent. Vince Totino and Scott Hemming of Revolution Studios, which was rebooted two years when it was bought by hedge fund Fortress, are shepherding actor and distributor deals for the film.

It’s over 20 years since they called Porpoise Spit home in the blockbuster Muriel’s Wedding but Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths have decided to reunite. As it was announced today, the pair will join forces to co-host the G’day USA event later this month in Los Angeles. The dynamic duo – who shot to thespian fame and into our pop culture consciousness for their ABBA-loving ways in the film – will host the annual G’Day USA Los Angeles Gala which will honour prominent Australians from film, television, music, sports and culture for their individual contribution to the US-Australia relationship. Both women have achieved extraordinary recognition and fame and in their own careers and will be a welcome change to an event that at one stage lost its way, but is now back on track to foster business relations between Australia and the United States.

Lots of additional production stills from “Miss You Already” have been added to the photo gallery. While the film’s theatrical run has been pretty limited in the USA, it will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on February 1 in the United Kingdom and on March 1 in the United States. Toni Collette and Jason Patric have joined the cast of The Yellow Birds, the Iraq War drama from Cinelou Films. Jennifer Aniston, Jack Huston,Tye Sheridan and Alden Ehrenreich are also starring in the movie that will be directed by Blue Caprice helmer Alexandre Moors. David Lowery wrote the script. Birds tells of two young soldiers (Sheridan and Ehrenreich) who bond in boot camp. They make a promise to keep one another safe but when one dies, the other struggles to keep the balance between the truth that he vowed not to speak, and the peace that a mourning mother seeks. Huston is their commander while Aniston is one of the soldier’s mother. Collette plays the mother of the soldier who returns. Patric, who will be seen in the family adventure movie Lost & Found, plays a captain. Filming is currently underway.
