Fox Searchlight just shook up this year’s awards race by announcing that Hitchcock, which had been looking like a 2013 release, will now open on November 23. First of all, the facts: Hitchcock is a dramedy about the relationship between kinky master-filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and his trusted wife Alma Reville during the making of his seminal 1960 film Psycho. The film was adapted by Black Swan co-screenwriter John McLaughlin from film historian/Playboy contributing editor Stephen Rebello’s book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho. It marks the feature directorial debut of Sacha Gervasi, featuring a large and formidable ensemble: Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren play Alfred and Alma; James D’Arcy, Scarlett Johansson, and Jessica Biel portray Psycho stars Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and Vera Miles, respectively; Michael Stuhlbarg is super-agent Lew Wasserman; and also popping up are Oscar nominee Toni Collette as Hitchcock’s faithful assistant Peggy Robertson, Danny Huston as Alma’s friend Whitfield Cook, and Ralph Macchio, The Karate Kid himself, as Psycho screenwriter Joe Stefano. An alaysis on why Searchlight slipped “Hitchcock” Into This Year’s Oscar Race can be read over at The Hollywood Reporter.

Today, Fox Searchlight has published a first theatrical poster for “Hitchcock”, featuring an unrecognizable Anthony Hopkins. But the most exciting thing about the poster is the mention of its release – 2012. Since the year doesn’t have many months left and no official release date has been announced, I’m guessing on a late December release, probably just in time to be qualified for the 2013 awards season. You can have a closer look at the poster in the gallery.

A fan’s greatest gift is when old and unseen interviews surface, and this has happened with these incredible video clips from the Australian programme “The Movie Show”.

First, there’s a report on the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, where “Muriel’s Wedding” had its world-premiere, featuring interviews with P.J. Hogan and Toni Collette, who was 21 at that time. Then, a 1997 interview with Toni and director David Parker on the release of the ill-fated “Diana and Me”. A 1999 interview with Toni to promote the Australian release of “The Sixth Sense”, as well as a report on the theatrical release of “Japanese Story”. Finally, as a special treat, “The Movie Show” paid a visit to the set of “Muriel’s Wedding” in 1994. This footage was also used for the making of which was later included on the DVD, but this report features an array of additional footage and interviews with the cast and crew, including P.J, Toni, Rachel Griffith and Bill Hunter. Very insightful material and definately a must-see. Enjoy the new clips.

Filming has commenced on director Pascal Chaumeil’s (Heartbreaker) adaptation of the Nick Hornby novel A Long Way Down. The story revolves around a group of strangers who coincidentally meet on the top of a London skyscraper on New Year’s Eve where they individually had gone to commit suicide. The four strangers, played by Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, and Imogen Poots, make a pact to stay alive until Valentine’s Day at least, and the story follows this group of unlikely friends.

The four central strangers are set as a once-beloved TV personality, single mother, failed musician turned pizza-delivery boy and a “sassy teen” respectively. Hornby is the author behind such great works as High Fidelity, About a Boy and Fever Pitch, so the source material is a solid foundation. Jack Thorne (How I Live Now) wrote the screenplay and production is taking place in England and Spain. Hit the jump to read the full press release (which includes a synopsis) and to check out the first image above. Also, an on-set picture has been added to the gallery, with thanks to our affiliate site Aaron Paul Online.
