Toni made a surprise appearance on television, promoting “Jesus Henry Christ” on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. After briefly talking about the film, the interview circled mostly about Australia – various Australian bars – and their children. This has been Toni’s fourth appearance on Craig Ferguson’s show – she first appeared in 2005 to promote “In her Shoes”, then in 2006 to promote “Little Miss Sunshine” and in 2009 for the release of “United States of Tara”. Toni Collette & Dev Patel To Star In India-Set Honor Killings “Defiant”

A new film based on true events, set in the world of “honor killings” in India, has picked up steam today as two talented actors have signed on for principal and supporting roles. Variety reports that Toni Collette and Dev Patel have joined “Defiant,” a thriller written and directed by Bill Burnett, and produced by the Australian-based Anupam Sharma. The film centers around the Islamic law that permits Muslim men to wed non-Muslim women, but denies women the same rights with men. Patel will play Hari, one half of a couple in love on the run from their parents, all of whom want to kill them for wanting to marry. Collette will play an Emmy-winning reporter who follows the story, but soon finds herself living it after becoming involved and fighting for the couple’s lives. Collette (who’s a busy bee at the moment, having signed on to “The Way Way Back,” “Miss You Already” and “A Long Way Down” in the last week alone) is of course an ever-reliable addition to any project, so it’s no doubt she’ll bring an excellent performance to her supporting role. Keep your eyes peeled for this one. Principal photography on “Defiant” will begin late-October in North India.

The Who’s Who in “Hitchcock”

Since filming on “Hitchcock” has begun and the key roles have been cast, here’s an overview on who’s going to play who.

Anthony Hopkins (Alfred Hitchcock)
Alfred Hitchcock will be forever remembered as one of the most influential directors in the history of cinema, a man who has pioneered many techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres. Anthony Hopkins has found his place in cinematic history as well, playing Hannibal Lecter. And he’s experienced in portraying real-life people, including Richard Nixon and Pablo Picasso.

Helen Mirren (Alma Reville)
Reville was an English assistant director, screenwriter and wife of Hitchcock, whom she met while they were working together in London, during the early 1920s. Helen Mirren will play Reville in the film. The Oscar winner had her share of real-life characters as well, portraying Tolstoi’s wife Sofya, Ayn Rand and every available British queen.

Toni Collette (Peggy Robertson)
Robertson was Hitchcock’s production assistant and trusted friend, who found Robert Bloch’s book called Psycho, about serial killer Ed Gein and forwarded it to Hitchcock. She has been an assistant to Hitchock on many of his films. This will be the first time that Toni Collette portrays a real-life character after the loosely based Mandy Slade / Angela Bowie character in “Velvet Goldmine”.

Scarlett Johansson (Janet Leigh)
Leigh starred in popular films of the 1940s and 1950s, inluding Little Women, Holiday Affair and Angels in the Outfield. For Psycho, Leigh – who’s the mother of actress Jamie Lee Curtis – won a Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination. She’s portrayed by Johansson in the film, whose portraits of real-life characters go back to Mary Boleyn and The Girl with the Pearl Earring.

Vera Miles (Jessica Biel)
Miles played Marion Crane, the sister of Janet Leigh’s character, in the film, who goes searching for her after her disappearance. Miles was featured in the trailer’s shower scene, unnoticed by audiences for years. The actress, who also appeared in The Searchers, The Wrong Man and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, will be played by Jessica Biel.

James D’Arcy (Anthony Perkins)
As Norman Bates, Perkins had the role of a lifetime, probably much to his dismay since audience members would always recognize him in this role, no matter what he played. His performance as Norman Bates in Psycho is ranked #4 on Premiere Magazine’s 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time. An Oscar-nominee for Friendly Persuasion, Perkins will be played by James D’Arcy.

Toni Collette lines up two more film roles

Toni Collette, who’s currently shooting Fox Searchlight’s “Hitchcock” and will spend her summer filming Jim Rash and Nat Faxon’s directorial debut “The Way, Way Back,” has lined up roles in two more prestige indies, as she’s in negotiations to join Jennifer Aniston in Paul Andrew Williams’ “Miss You Already” and Pascal Chaumeil’s “The Long Way Down,” based on the book by Nick Hornby. Pierce Brosnan is also in negotiations to star in “Long Way Down,” which will be produced by Amanda Posey and Finola Dwyer, the Oscar-nominated duo who previously worked with Hornby on “An Education.” Jack Thorne adapted Hornby’s novel, which follows four strangers on New Year’s Eve who coincidentally plan to jump to their deaths from the same rooftop. Collette is in talks to play the helpless single mom of a disabled young man, while Brosnan is in talks to play a scandal-plagued talkshow host. Pic will shoot from late summer to early fall in London.

In “Miss You Already,” Collette and Aniston would play lifelong best friends who help each other face the biggest challenges of their respective lives as one battles breast cancer and the other prepares for the birth of her first child while the baby’s father is away on business. Collette is negotiating to play the latter character, who’s the more reserved of the duo. Williams wrote the script with Morwenna Banks, and Chris Simon is producing the dramatic two-hander, which will shoot this fall in London. The Weinstein Co. just picked up Williams’ “Song for Marion” for domestic distribution and is planning an awards push for the film later this year. Collette is currently working with Anthony Hopkins on the Los Angeles set of Sacha Gervasi’s “Hitchcock,” in which she plays the “Psycho” helmer’s fiercely protective longtime assistant. Once she wraps that period pic, the “United States of Tara” alum will segue to “The Way, Way Back,” in which she’ll play the young protag’s mother and wife of Steve Carell’s philandering character.

First look at Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock

Fox Searchlight have offered the first look image of Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock in The Montecito Picture Company’s Hitchcock, formerly titled Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho. The film, an adaptation of Stephen Rebello’s non-fiction book, stars Hopkins as the famous director and producer, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the production of his critically acclaimed Psycho. Hopkins stars opposite a top-notch ensemble, including Scarlett Johansson, Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel, Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg and Michael Wincott. Filming is now underway in Los Angeles, California, with Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) directing from an adapted screenplay penned by Rebello himself.

Below is the first picture of Hopkins as Hitchcock. On the right is a picture of Hitchcock’s assistant, Peggy Robertson, who will be played by Toni Collette (I seriously can’t wait to see that transformation), sitting next to Kim Novak.
