What a banner week it has been for Toni Collette: The promotion for both “Knives Out” in Toronto and “Unbelievable” in New York – and, in case you’ve missed it, the official announcement that she will indeed star in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming “Nightmare Alley”). This week’s Monday and Tuesday were blocked for all kinds of appearances to promote Friday’s premiere of “Unbelievable” on Netflix. A first visit was paid to Build Series in New York City, with Toni, Kaitlyn Dever, Merritt Wever, Danielle Macdonald and executive producers Susannah Grant, Lisa Cholodenko and Sarah Timberman in attendance. The full interview can be watched below (and in the video archive) while screencaptures have been added to the photo gallery.

Netflix has released a new trailer for their upcoming drama miniseries Unbelievable, highlighting Kaitlyn Dever’s Marie as she tries hard to make everyone believe her. Also starring Toni Collette as Det. Edna Hendershot and Merritt Wever as Det. Stacy Galbraith, the limited series will be available for streaming on September 13. Created by Oscar nominee Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), Unbelievable is a story of unspeakable trauma, unwavering tenacity, and astounding resilience. It is an eight-episode series, based on This American Life radio episode “Anatomy of Doubt” as well as the Pulitzer Prize-winning article by the Marshall Project and ProPublica, which tells the true story of Marie, a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped and the two female detectives who followed a twisting path at the truth. The series will also star Danielle Macdonald (Bird Box, Dumplin’), Kai Lennox, Dale Dickey, Elizabeth Marvel, Liza Lapira, Eric Lange, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Austin Hebert, Hendrix Yancey, Aubrey Fuller, Omar Maskati, Blake Ellis, and Karl Herlinger. Collette and Wever play the two detectives as they hunt for a possible serial rapist. Oscar nominees Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right, Here and Now) and Grant will be directing the episodes with Grant also serving as showrunner.

Netflix’s “Unbelievable” trailer introduces Emmy winners Toni Collette and Merrit Wever as detectives Grace Rasmussen and Karen Duvall, who come across two familiar-sounding cases. As Entertainment Weekly reports, hundreds of miles away in a different state, Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever), a teenage girl, filed a police report that claimed she was sexually assaulted by an intruder in her home. The police kept trying to poke holes in her story and ultimately determined she wasn’t credible and that there was no victim in this case. Meanwhile, Grace and Karen discover two new rapes on their own turf with the same M.O. as Marie’s alleged attacker. Thus begins the search for a potential serial rapist.

Does this story already sound familiar? That’s because the series is based on the true events in T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong’s Pulitzer Prize-winning article from ProPublica and The Marshall Project titled “An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” as well as the radio episode of This American Life tackling this same subject, “Anatomy of Doubt.” The trailer description comes with contact information for RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline for anyone who has experienced sexual violence in their lives. The number for the hotline is 800.656.HOPE (4673) and the website is online.rainn.org. Unbelievable debuts on Netflix Sep. 13.

Rian Johnson’s Knives Out is coming into focus with the new trailer. The ensemble cast includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis. “Knives Out” centers on a detective (Craig) investigating a murder when he comes across an eccentric, combative family. “I’ve been a die-hard Agatha Christie fan since I was a teenager,” Johnson said at CinemaCon in April. “Knives Out was my attempt to take everything I love about an Agatha Christie who-done-it, jam it into an all-star cast, give it a Hitchcock thriller, genre twist and set it in modern-day America.” Johnson last directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Before that he built a following for his genre films, such as his noir-tinged debut feature Brick (2006), and the time traveling drama Looper (2012). He is also developing a new trilogy of Star Wars films for Lucasfilm.

The trailer for “Velvet Buzzsaw” is here and it’s pretty f***ing amazing :-) Buzzsaw sees Gilroy reuniting with Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo for another tale of creativity leading to terror and danger. It’s set set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles, where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price… In this case, literally paying with their lives. Gyllenhaal plays snobby art critic Morf Vandewalt, who discovers a new talent, only for the odd things to start happening around him. Does the artist have a connection to dark powers, or is it all in Morf’s head? Gilroy rounded up the likes of John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs and Tom Sturridge for the film, which will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival before arriving on limited theatrical release and on Netflix on 1 February. Be aware that the trailer is a massive spoiler in terms of Toni’s character Gretchen, but it’s worth the watch. Screencaptures have been added to the photo gallery.
