It’s a blessed day for Toni Collette fans – not only did we get a first trailer for Netflix’s “Pieces of Her” (see below), but also the first production stills from HBO Max’s upcoming “The Staircase” miniseries, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly: As chronicled in the genre-defining docuseries of the same name, The Staircase will dramatize the darkly fascinating story of how Michael, a novelist in Durham, N.C., was accused of murdering his wife after she was found dead in a pool of blood at the bottom of a set of stairs in their home. Michael was convicted of killing Kathleen in 2003, but the story didn’t end there. In 2017, he was freed after submitting an Alford plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter. In addition to Firth and Collette, the eight-episode limited series boasts a star-studded cast including Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tim Guinee, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Turner, Vincent Vermignon, Odessa Young, and Parker Posey. The new Staircase is written and executive-produced by showrunners Antonio Campos and Maggie Cohn, and set to debut in the spring. The Staircase docuseries first aired on the Sundance Channel in 2005, bringing increased attention to the case and spawning all manner of theories regarding Kathleen’s death. French filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade shot additional material in 2012 and 2013, and three new episodes were made for Netflix, where the docuseries is available to stream in full.

Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote star in “Pieces of Her”, a Netflix thriller series about a mother-daughter relationship that is brutally changed after both of them experience a traumatic event. Back in January, Netflix released some first-look images that showcased the possible twists and turns of the story, and now the official trailer unveils further details of the plot. The trailer showcases the ways in which Andy (Heathcote) and Laura’s (Collette) relationship starts deteriorating after the mother reacts in a whole unexpected way to a shooter invading a diner. Andy goes on to investigate her mother’s past and, the more she uncovers, the more she feels like she has no idea who Laura is. The trailer also teases Laura’s transformation from a loving mother into a mysterious figure whose expressions get less and less revealing as the story progresses. Is she a secret agent? Is she a criminal? We’ll have to wait a couple of weeks to find out. Pieces of Her is inspired by the best-selling novel by author Karin Slaughter. The story is adapted by showrunner and Emmy nominee Charlotte Stoudt. The screenwriter has worked on thriller stories for some years: she was a story editor and screenwriter for several episodes of Showtime’s Homeland and Netflix’s House of Cards. Netflix premieres Pieces of Her on March 4.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling novel, in a sleepy Georgia town a random act of violence sets off an unexpected chain of events for 30-year-old Andy Oliver and her mother Laura. Desperate for answers, Andy embarks on a dangerous journey across America, drawing her towards the dark, hidden heart of her family.

We don’t have to wait very long to watch Toni leading the upcoming Netflix show “Pieces of Her”, with a release date announced for March 4, 2022. Entertainment Weekly has published a first batch of production stills along a brief article: How well does anyone know their parents? This question is one of many at the heart of Netflix’s upcoming drama series, Pieces of Her. Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the thriller is set in a sleepy Georgia town, where a random act of violence sets off an unexpected chain of events for 30-year-old Andy Oliver (Bella Heathcote) and her mother Laura (Toni Collette). Desperate for answers, Andy embarks on a dangerous journey across America, drawing her towards the dark, hidden heart of her family. In a first look at the series, below, we’re introduced to Andy and Laura, the violent incident that sets the plot in motion, and the action-packed journey that follows.

I recently stumbled across “Muriel’s Wedding” on Blu-Ray and was hesitant to buy it at first – simply because I have seen it countless times on VHS, DVD and on tv. Anyway, I bought and rewatched it – and I’ve never seen the film in such great image quality. I definately recommend getting the digitally restored Blu-Ray to revisit Porpoise Spot and the film itself – still a perfect heartfelt comedy and a timeless classic. So – as the last update for this year and as an early Christmas present to all you visitors – here are Blu-Ray captures from the film in wonderful high definition. Enjoy the Holidays everybody and see you all in 2022.

“Nightmare Alley” opened in US theaters this Friday, unfortunately to a dismal box office revenue. As Forbes let’s us know, “Guillermo del Toro’s very good and very ambitious Nightmare Alley never had a chance. Even with solid reviews and decent buzz, the period piece film noir melodrama earned just $1.192 million yesterday, setting the stage for a $1.95 million opening weekend. That’s below even the over/under $5 million “Covid normal” for the likes of King Richard, The Last Duel and Last Night in Soho, closer to the $2.3 million launch of Lisa Joy’s Reminiscence. Again, these are exactly the kind of big-budget, adult-skewing, star-driven, non-franchise studio programmers everyone claims Hollywood never makes.” The film hasn’t been released in European countries yet (which won’t make a big difference with everything shutting down due to the new Covid variant), so here’s hoping for a swift home-video release. To wrap-up the updates on the film, new pictures, tv spots and a making of featuring an interview with Toni Collette have been added to the site. Enjoy.

While we’re eagerly anticipating next week’s theatrical release of “Nightmare Alley” in the US (and hopefully a press tour for the film that will include at least some virtual appearances by Toni), an international trailer for the United Kingdom has been released, giving us more glimpses of Toni’s Zeena Krumbein, a featurette with a focus on the film’s noir effect, as well as a couple of television spots have been released. All clips can be viewed below and in the video archive.
