As reported, Australia’s 60 Minutes has profiled Toni Collette on its current episode with a very nice interview, scenes from “Mental” and a trip down the memory lane with director P.J. Hogan at a screening of “Muriel’s Wedding”. The profile can be watched in the video archive, captures have been added to the image library.

Screencaptures of Toni’s guest appearance as the Premier of New South Wales in ABC’s “Rake” have been added to the gallery. This was a very funny and racy performance, of which I hope we will see more in the coming episodes.

Here’s a quick catch-up with the episode: Cleaver’s (Richard Roxburgh) affair with the Premier (Toni Collette) proves to be costly when her husband, Attorney-General Cal McGregor (Damien Garvey) begins a campaign of harassment against him. And not only is David Potter (Matt Day) suing him for defamation, but, after the clown punch-up at seven-year-old Max’s birthday party, he’s lost Barney (Russell Dykstra) as a friend and colleague as well. Additionally, three video clips from the episode have been added to the video archive.

Toni Collette will be featured in the next instalment of the legal drama series “Rake”, which premieres on September 6, 2012 on ABC. Toni guest stars as the Premier of NSW, a character that has her working opposite Matt Day as the Shadow Attorney General, the first time the pair have shared the screen since “Muriel’s Wedding”. “Rake”, stars Richard Roxburgh, who previously worked with Toni on the 2006 thriller “Like Minds”. Unfortunately there’s no information so far if Toni will appear in only one or more episodes – but I’m sure the following pictures and preview trailer will keep you excited until there’s more information. Also, additional features can be found at the series’ official website.

After its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival (which Toni did not attend), reviews and additional media on “Mental” has found its way online. First of all, a bunch of new production stills have been added to the gallery. You can also find a new promotional still and the Australian poster with thanks to my “Mental”-source Justine for the heads-up.

The Hollywood Reporter has seen the film and has posted an interesting review: If there’s method to writer-director PJ Hogan’s madness, it’s not obvious from the unruly opening frames of Mental, a suburban comedy that celebrates mayhem and mischief-making as the correct responses to societal straightjackets. But, aided and abetted by the rule-defying Toni Collette, whose onscreen powers have only multiplied since the two worked together on the much-loved Muriel’s Wedding in 1994, the equally dissident filmmaker soon makes it clear he’s in control of the crazy. The complete review can be read here. There’s another article by the ABC on the film’s opening at the Australian International Movie Convention.

Two new production stills from “Mental” have been added to the gallery, with many thanks to Justine for the heads-up! In the comedy directed by P.J. Hogan, Toni plays crazy nanny Chaz who hired to take care of five sisters after their mother is committed to a mental institution. The film will release in Australia on October 04th.
