One of Toni’s more recent films, the 2012 British drama/comedy “Foster” will be released in the USA on DVD and VOD. The title has been changed for the US market to “Angel in the House” (how very un-spoilerish!) and will be released on, March 26, 2013. The film has been recently reviewed on the site, I wouldn’t rank it among Toni’s best, but if you enjoy family comedy (or London in its brightest colors), check it out.

According to Deadline, Toni Collette will be starring in “Lucky Them”, the film that Paul Newman was working on when he passed away in 2008. The “un-romantic comedy” about a female rock journalist on assignment to hunt down her musician ex-boyfriend began filming in Seattle last weekend on Newman’s birthday — January 26th. Newman’s wife Joanne Woodward signed on to executive produce the picture last year to help its cause. Thomas Haden Church plays the elusive ex, with Oliver Platt, Ryan Eggold and Ahna O’Reilly rounding out the supporting cast. Newman had hoped to cameo in the film and gave notes on the project, inspiring Woodward to get involved. The semi-autobiographical script is by Emily Wachtel and Huck Botko; Woodward, Wachtel, and Amy Hobby (who previously produced Sam Shepard’s doc Shepard & Dark) are producing alongside Adam Gibbs with Peer Pedersen executive producing. Megan Griffiths is directing.

Independent film distributor Dada Films has acquired Mental. The Australian comedy reunites director P.J. Hogan with actress Toni Collette for the first time since their collaboration in Muriel’s Wedding back in 1994, Deadline said. Dada’s owners MJ Peckos and Steven Raphael say they plan to release Mental both theatrically and on VOD on March 29. In Mental, Collette plays Shaz, a single woman hired by the father of five young girls to take care of them after their mother has a nervous breakdown. Anthony LaPaglia plays the father. Liev Schreiber also stars in the film as a shark hunter. Dada picked up Mental after it debuted at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month. Jerry Zucker, Janet Zucker, Todd Fellman and Jocelyn Moorhouse produced Mental.

Toni’s latest film, “The Way, Way Back”, celebrated its world-premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, yesterday. Toni attended both the film’s premiere and after-party in Park City. Pictures from the event have been added to the image library.

Entertainment Weekly has a very nice review on its premiere: Anyone who thought the Sundance Film Festival would suffer a post-first-weekend malaise did not anticipate The Way, Way Back, a throwback summer comedy from Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, the Oscar-winning screenwriters of The Descendents. There were 1,001 possible versions of Way Back that could’ve been made — 1,000 of them forgettable — but their tale is salvaged by a gonzo mentor (Sam Rockwell) received a standing ovation from the capacity crowd at Park City’s Eccles Theater Monday afternoon. Sources close to The Way, Way Back confirm that Fox Searchlight has settled a deal to distribute the comedy for just under the record $10.5 million the company paid for Little Miss Sunshine in 2006. Terms are settled and negotiations are over, with Searchlight planning an announcement shortly.

According to Vulture, the coming-of-age-comedy was well-received. “The Way, Way Back” follows a teenager (Liam James) on summer vacation; he can barely put up with the overbearing asshole (Steve Carell) who’s been dating his mom (Toni Collette). A video from the event, featuring first scenes from the film, has been released and can be watched in the video archive.
