Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett has recorded a song for the forthcoming film, Miss You Already. The song is the title track to the movie — which focuses on the lifelong friendship of two women — and hits on the film’s themes of loss and the preciousness of memories in a razor-toothed surge of guitars with a hot chorus,” according to Rolling Stone. It was written by Jett, guitarist Dougie Needles and Jett’s longtime manager Kenny Laguna. “I give her pop..She gives me menace,” said Laguna of the track. Helmed by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, the movie stars Drew Barrymore, Toni Collette, Dominic Cooper and Jacqueline Bissett. Jett also spoke with Rolling Stone about sexism in rock. “People look at women differently,” Jett says. “Men are viable into old age. Women all of a sudden become matronly? C’mon, man!” Jett — who is on the road with The Who through November — said a typical day off stage consists of doing “nothing.” “If I can help it,” she said “I’d work at the animal shelter. Or I kick back on my royalties, just be out in nature.”

Cambridge News has posted an article about Toni Collette’s research for “Miss You Already” and the support she has received from the Cambridge University Hospitals: It is not every day that people get up and go to work and give advice to a Hollywood movie star. But two specialist nurses and a consultant from Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) got to do just that. Neuro-oncology specialist nurse Ingela Oberg, breast cancer specialist nurse Alison Hallett and cancer consultant Dr Richard Baird provided on-set clinical consultancy to Hollywood actress Toni Collette, during the filming of new comedy drama, Miss You Already. The film follows Milly and her best friend Jess, played by Drew Barrimore, who are lifelong friends who struggle to maintain their relationship when they are both hit by heartache. Town planner Jess lives a happy bohemian life with her partner Jago – played by Paddy Considine – until she struggles to conceive the baby she has always longed for. The trio gave guidance to Collette, whose plays character Milly, a high-flyer with two children and a husband Kit – played by Dominc Cooper – whose life is upturned when she develops a brain tumour following the spread of breast cancer. “Toni and the production team were very keen to portray what it’s like living with a brain tumour, as accurately as possible,” said Ingela. “They approached me and asked if I could guide Toni on how her character’s behaviour might change, and the kind of challenges she should expect to face with an illness like brain cancer.” The complete article can be read over at Cambridge News.

On Thursday, Toni and Drew Barrymore have attended a charity event in London, helping Breast Cancer Campaign host an afternoon tea at The Goldsmith Pub in Southwark. Toni’s new look was unveiled just one day after she was spotted filming scenes in London with a full head of hair, believed to be a wig. “Miss You Already” tells the story of two best friends whose friendship is put to the test when one falls ill. Pictures from the afternoon tea can be found in the photo gallery.

Pictures and article courtesy People Magazine: Toni Collette has always been a style chameleon, but we guarantee you’ve never seen her like this before. The actress has shaved off her long, blonde locks for a completely bald do (for a role, of course!), and she’s sharing the first look with PEOPLE. Collette, 41, is in London filming Miss You Already, a relationship drama costarring Drew Barrymore. The two play childhood best friends who must cope when Collette’s character is diagnosed with breast cancer. Check out Collette revealing her clean-shaven head in the makeup trailer in one snapshot and grinning (makeup-free!) with Barrymore in another.

Catherine Hardwicke’s upcoming “Miss You Already” has yet another chance in the leading role. While Toni Collette has been on board early on, her first announced co-star was Jennifer Aniston. Earlier this year, the role was replaced by Rachel Weisz. Now, Weisz has been replaced by Drew Barrymore, according to Variety. The film will also star Dominic Cooper, Paddy Considine and Jacqueline Bisset. Foreign sales at the Toronto Film Festival are being handled by The Salt Company, which shares North American sales with CAA. The film will be distributed in the United Kingdom by Entertainment One. Production will start in the U.K. on Sunday. Catherine Hardwicke directs from a screenplay by British writer and actor Morwenna Banks. Shooting is largely focused in London and later moving to the Yorkshire Moors. Collette and Barrymore portray women who have been best friends forever and Cooper and Considine play their husbands. Bisset portrays the mother of Collette’s character. The relationship hits a rough patch when Barrymore’s character struggles to have a much longed-for baby and Collette’s character finds out she has breast cancer. “‘Miss You Already’ explores the ups and down of an intense friendship,” Hardwicke said. “With our fearless actors, we’re taking this very personal story on a wild ride.”
