According to Empire, Rian Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out isn’t due to land in the UK until the end of November, but those attending this year’s London Film Festival are in for a treat, as it has been selected as the American Express Gala screening, and will make its European premiere at the fest on 8 October. Knives Out sees Johnson channelling Agatha Christie for a mystery featuring the death of renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). When he’s found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. The writer-director has assembled a cast that also includes Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, and Ana de Armas. “I’m thrilled to be screening Knives Out at the BFI London Film Festival,” says the director. “This film was an attempt to capture the twisty fun of an Agatha Christie whodunnit, it’s a great pleasure to be showing it in the country responsible for the genre’s golden age.” The 63rd BFI London Film festival takes place between 2 October and 13 October, and the full scheduled will be announced at the end of this month.

Rian Johnson’s Knives Out is coming into focus with the new trailer. The ensemble cast includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis. “Knives Out” centers on a detective (Craig) investigating a murder when he comes across an eccentric, combative family. “I’ve been a die-hard Agatha Christie fan since I was a teenager,” Johnson said at CinemaCon in April. “Knives Out was my attempt to take everything I love about an Agatha Christie who-done-it, jam it into an all-star cast, give it a Hitchcock thriller, genre twist and set it in modern-day America.” Johnson last directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Before that he built a following for his genre films, such as his noir-tinged debut feature Brick (2006), and the time traveling drama Looper (2012). He is also developing a new trilogy of Star Wars films for Lucasfilm.

The first trailer for Rian Johnson’s Knives Out just wowed the crowd at CinemaCon. Lionsgate decided to surprise those in attendance with the first look at Johnson’s follow-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is a decidedly very different kind of movie. This time around, the filmmaker has decided to tackle a whodunit-style murder mystery with an impressive ensemble cast. Apparently, based on the reactions to the footage on social media, that all makes for a winning combination. Rian Johnson was on hand to present the first trailer for Knives Out. He described the movie as his own take on Agatha Christie, while also saying it has a “Hitchcock thriller-type twist.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Ana De Armas were also on hand to present the footage, which went over like gangbusters. Digging around online, there isn’t a single negative reaction in the bunch to what was shown. Granted, it’s just a trailer, but this bodes very well for Johnson’s next movie, which he also wrote and has been working on for nearly a decade. The trailer reveals the patriarch of a family who dies at his birthday party, prompting an investigation. The footage was described as very stylish and was set to the tune of Live and Let Die by Paul McCartney and Wings, which was originally used in the James Bond movie of the same name. The highlight of the footage was Chris Evans saying the phrase “eat s***” several times to members of his family.

Daniel Craig is the lead and plays a southern detective, with Chris Evans as the son of characters played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Johnson. Michael Shannon, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette and Ana De Armas, who was described as “the moral center”, also show up. Other cast members include Catherine Langford, Christopher Plummer, Riki Lindhome and the legendary Frank Oz, the man behind Yoda, in the flesh this time around. Needless to say, this thing is absolutely stacked from top to bottom in that department. There is no word currently on how long we may have to wait before this trailer is actually made available online. Though, we’re guessing it probably won’t be too terribly long. The Last Jedi proved to be incredibly divisive. However, prior to that, Rian Johnson made some truly impressive non-franchise movies such as Looper and Brick. Could this be a return to what he does best? Fingers crossed on this one. Knives Out is set to hit theaters on November 27 from Lionsgate.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate is set to partner with MRC and distribute worldwide Knives Out, the contemporary murder mystery that Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi helmer Rian Johnson wrote and is directing. Daniel Craig stars as a detective trying to solve a murder and the killer ensemble cast includes Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Lakeith Stanfield, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Katherine Langford and Don Johnson. Lionsgate has dated the film for nationwide release on November 27, 2019 for the Thanksgiving holiday corridor. It was shopped at Toronto by CAA Media Finance and FilmNation, and MRC stepped up and acquired all rights and agreed to finance the picture. Knives Out becomes a big title for Lionsgate, which already had the next iteration of Hellboy, John Wick: Chapter 3, and the Roland Emmerich-directed WWII action adventure Midway. Said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake: “Knives Out redefines the detective movie genre in a cool and original way. With a superstar filmmaker, an amazing ensemble cast and the perfect partner in MRC, we can hardly wait to bring this big, crowd-pleasing property to a global audience next Thanksgiving.” Said MRC co-presidents of film Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman: “The entire Lionsgate team was incredibly impressive and could not have been more passionate about the project. We’re looking forward to working together to help bring Rian’s original and highly entertaining movie to the world.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher Plummer is in negotiations to join the cast of Knives Out, the all-star detective thriller from Rian Johnson, the filmmaker behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The blinding high-wattage cast already includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette and Ana de Armas. MRC, the company behind movies such as Baby Driver and the upcoming Mortal Engines, is producing and financing Knives, which is said to harken back to the more singular vision of Johnson’s movies such as Brick and Looper. Details on who Plummer, the veteran actor whose credits range from The Sound of Music to A Beautiful Mind, would play were not revealed. Production began this week.
