The Commonwealth Bank’s CAN’T campaign has morphed into CAN, changing its tag line and aiming to highlight the attitude the bank’s employees bring to the workplace. The spot aims to be fresh, upbeat, optimistic and convey an empowering message. The 60” TVC airing across all networks features actress Toni Collette speaking directly to camera, delivering the message behind the campaign underpinned by the poem Ode to Can, written by M&C Saatchi creative director Andy Fleming. Thanks to Rebecca for the heads-up!

I don’t understand – why would Toni sign up for an ad like this? Its so out of character. No one back home understands why such a person with strong values and morals would ever do an ad for a bank of all things. Particularly when there doesn’t seem to be any cultural, social benefit to the message at all. Very confused about this decision… and disappointed too.

I completely agree with the above. Its so very disappointing. When I first saw the ad I thought it would be for a charitable organisation, or some government initiative. But instead Toni appears to have sold her soul to the devil. I mean, CBA? Could it be any worse? The pretence this ad submits the public to – we all know CBA (as with all major businesses) play their fiddle to the shareholders only and the insulting nature of this advert only makes Toni’s involvement mystifying. What a mistake to make. I’m sure they paid you handsomely for the effort, but it is very, very disappointing.

Well, I have a very different opinion… I think it’s a beautiful, inspirational poem. And so well read by Toni Collette. If we must be bombarded with advertising in this modern world we live in, then I would far prefer it be something intelligent like this, over some of the rubbish that is so often thrown our way.

Well I agree with this poem because every single kid at my high school always says this: “I can’t do this, I can’t to that” if you get my point. Atlest it shows that you can do things in life without say you can’t!! Just say you can!!!! You never actually know unless you try!!
